Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EV9 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Gravity doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Kia EV9 achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Lucid Motors Gravity has not been tested.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the EV9’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The Gravity doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

The EV9 has standard 911 Connect, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Gravity doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the EV9 and the Gravity have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Kia EV9 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2026 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test, and a “Good” score in the revised vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention test. The Gravity has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2026.

Warranty

The EV9 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Gravity’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV9 2 years longer than Lucid Motors covers the Gravity. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Gravity ends after only 8 years or 100,000 miles.

There are almost 18 times as many Kia dealers as there are Lucid Motors dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EV9’s warranty.

Motor Trend

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the EV9 GT-Line’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Gravity (285/45R21 vs. 265/50R20).

Suspension and Handling

The EV9’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Gravity doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EV9’s wheelbase is 2.5 inches longer than on the Gravity (122 inches vs. 119.5 inches).

Chassis

The Kia EV9 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 900 pounds less than the Lucid Motors Gravity.

The front grille of the EV9 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Gravity doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the EV9 GT-Line AWD is quieter than the Gravity Dream Edition (69 vs. 71 dB).

Passenger Space

The EV9 has 3.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Gravity (158.8 vs. 155).

The EV9 has .5 inches more front legroom, 2.5 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear legroom, 1.7 inches more rear shoulder room, 2.1 inches more third row headroom and 5.2 inches more third row shoulder room than the Gravity.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV9’s middle and third row seats recline. The Gravity’s middle and third row seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

Both the EV9 and the Gravity offer second row automatic folding seats. The EV9’s optional third row seats also fold up or down at the press of a switch. The Gravity doesn’t offer automatic folding third row seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the EV9’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Gravity doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the EV9 uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Gravity doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The EV9 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Gravity doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

On a hot day the EV9’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Gravity can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EV9 has a standard rear wiper. The Gravity doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The EV9’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Gravity’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

When the EV9 Land/GT-Line is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Gravity’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The EV9’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Gravity has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The EV9 has standard front air conditioned seats and the EV9 Land/GT-Line also has them in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Gravity doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

Model Availability

The EV9 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Gravity doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The EV9 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2024. The Gravity has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the EV9 as the 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Gravity has never been chosen.

The Kia EV9 outsold the Lucid Motors Gravity by almost 14 to one during 2025.
