Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia above average in long-term dependability. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Hyundai is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Kia 2 places higher in reliability than Hyundai.

Engine

The Telluride’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 51 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 260) than the Palisade’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the Kia Telluride 4 cyl. hybrid gas is faster than the Hyundai Palisade V6:

Motor Trend magazine performs a classic 0 to 100 MPH and back to 0 MPH performance test. The Kia Telluride SX Prestige completed this feat in only 16.2 seconds. It took the Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy HTRAC 20.9 seconds.

The Telluride SX Prestige handles at .77 G’s, while the Palisade XRT PRO pulls only .74 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Telluride SX Prestige executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the Palisade XRT PRO (27.7 seconds @ .64 average G’s vs. 29 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Telluride X-Pro has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Palisade XRT PRO (9.1 vs. 8.4 inches), allowing the Telluride to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Passenger Space

The Telluride has .2 inches more front shoulder room and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Palisade.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Telluride. The Palisade doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Ergonomics

The Telluride’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Palisade’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Kia Telluride has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console for two separate devices. Only the Palisade SEL/XRT/Limited/Calligraphy/Hybrid offers wireless charging, and only charges one device.

Recommendations

Motor Trend selected the Telluride as their 2020 Sport Utility of the Year. The Palisade has never been chosen.
